Structurally, Acer campestre Emerald Splendor™ is more typical of hedge maple with a rounded and upright habit but with distinct winged and corky branches that are especially showy when dormant. The wings rival winged euonymus and are an orangey brown when young. The tree has the unique characteristic of breaking dormancy about 10 days later than the species. Useful as an under the wire urban tree or small lawn specimen. Foliage turns a warm yellow in autumn. A Klyn Nurseries introduction. Species is native to southwest Asia and Europe.
