Product Description
ASARUM canadense ‘Jumbo’ – Jumbo Wild Ginger
Wild ginger is a native, spring wildflower that makes a lovely groundcover with its satiny, heart-shaped leaves. The foliage of ‘Jumbo’ can be up to 6″ in diameter on strong stems that form a robust plant much larger than those usually seen. Pollinated by ants, the flowers are quite attractive on close inspection, but are usually hidden from view by the foliage. The leaves of Asarum have a spicy fragrance when crushed, but shouldn’t be eaten. The roots are edible and can be used as a flavoring like ginger. Use as a native woodland groundcover or combine with ferns, woodland sedges and other shade loving perennials. Selected from a native clone from southeastern Appalachians.
