Pecans have more leaflets than other hickories between 9-17 and their nuts are longer and at maturity are separated into four sections along their wings. These sweet edible nuts are favored by wildlife and people. Pecan is native to the rich, moist soils of bottomlands of the Mississippi Valley to southern Indiana with limited distribution in southern Ohio.
