Ice Plants are native to South Africa. These hardy species come from an area of the Drakensberg Mts. where it is cold enough for snow and skiing. Use like a sedum in hot sunny locations in gardens that have good drainage especially in winter. They are very useful in rock and alpine gardens or as ground covers. D. nubeginum has golden yellow 3/4 in. flowers that appear in late May and early June and cover the pickle-like foliage.
