HEPTACODIUM miconioides

A tall, arching multi-stemmed shrub or small, single stemmed tree. In mid August flower buds form on the ends of branches opening in September to clusters of fragrant white flowers lasting several weeks. As the flowers fade they are replaced by wine red calyces which remain colorful until late fall. Winter interest is provided by the light tan exfoliating bark.
